Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center

The Center:

Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center has been established in 2006 – as one of the venues of The Sector Fine Arts, Ministry of Culture – in the premises of the museum of the great sculptor Mahmoud Mokhtar (the pioneer of Egyptian Modern Sculpture) which displays a unique variety of the artists’ productions.

The Center aims to activate the intercourse between different media of artistic expression and the spectator as well as solidifying the base of young emerging artists throughout displaying national and international exhibitions, workshops and diverse events.

The Premises:

Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center consists of:

NAHDET MISR GALLERY:

Nahdet Misr Gallery is the major gallery that has been holding all the exhibitions and workshop production displays of the Center since its launch in 2006 on local and international basis. It also holds the screenings of feature, experimental & documentary films as well as video art shows.

ISIS GALLERY:

Isis Gallery is the newly born gallery in the Center having the potential of receiving vast diverse exhibitions due to its spectacular elongated rectangular shape of 30 meters width. After its launching in 2009 it has added a whole new entity to the Center especially when combined with Nahdet Misr Gallery putting the Center as one of the largest exhibiting venues of The Sector of Fine Arts – Ministry of Culture.

THE CULTURAL GARDEN:

The Garden hosts all the open air events such as musical concerts, theatre, performance art, workshops in different media and finally open air exhibitions. It also has an open air coffee shop where one could enjoy drinks during an event or simply rest while enjoying the premises.

THE WALL:

The WALL is the latest addition to the Center. The idea of building a 52 meters wall in the Cultural Garden evolved during Graffiti Festival 2 – one of the major events of the Center – where it became a necessity to build a legit wall to hold temporary Graffiti artworks of the Festival as well as free expressions of artist throughout 2 or 3 major events – manipulating public direct artistic executions – during each season.
